The Raising A Reader program is flexible and can be adapted to meet the unique needs of children and families. We will walk you through every step of the way!

Facebook Twitter LinkedIn. Raising more than 1. Mathew gets really excited when he gets to take home his red book bag every week with different books.

The Raise-a-Reader features a week-long digital campaign with a user-friendly online platform to collect donations from anyone with a passion for supporting family literacy programs across BC. As one of the partner beneficiaries of Raise-a-Reader, the Canucks for Kids Fund will once again donate the Raise-a-Reader grant directly to the Canucks Family Education Centre CFEC to support the cost of offering quality pre-school and adult classes, hot meals, child-minding and transit passes free of charge to learners each week.

With locations on both Vancouver's east-side and in Burnaby's Edmonds neighbourhood, CFEC utilizes a multi-generational approach that engages all family members in learning. Higher literacy rates have been proven to create more productive and healthier citizens which in turn, builds stronger communities. There are two events in Clearwater to raise funds for local literacy projects.

In the morning we run a newspaper campaign. Volunteers in bright orange shirts stand outside of local businesses and ask the public to trade a special Raise a Reader edition of a newspaper for a donation towards literacy.

The volunteers are representatives of local organizations that are passionate about literacy in the community. Local businesses, service groups, book clubs and members of the public register teams in the event.
